Same material, different patterns. The weight and texture of a fabric is key – choosing a similar type of fabric for accent pillows, poufs and chairs can help make your striped sofa fit in. For example, in the space shown here, a rough, textured striped sofa is accented with a few equally nubby pillows and a kilim pouf. If you have a fine linen sofa, try pairing it with cotton voile pillows; a velvet sofa would call for something thick and luxurious, like wool (or more velvet).
Moroccan pouf. It's that age‐old problem: where to prop your feet when you're relaxing on the sofa? The obvious solution is a Moroccan leather pouf. Simple and compact, these versatile little seats work surprisingly well in a variety of settings, not just souk‐style rooms. Here a pair of brown leather poufs adds impact next to a plain corner sofa, complementing the sophisticated design scheme brilliantly.
Keep a little‐stuff drawer. Notice I did not say "junk drawer". Every room has small items that need a home, and a well‐organized drawer can be a smart place to put them. It's only a junk drawer if you think of it that way! Unless you are already using a storage ottoman as a junk drawer (see No. 3), find a drawer in a console table, credenza or chest to hold small stuff such as charging cords, pens, stamps and scissors.
Solo ledge. When there's ample shelving and storage elsewhere in the house, it can make more sense to keep things simple around the fireplace. The single shelf in this living room is enough to add some chic coastal style with accessories.
