Darcey Muirgel Living Room Wallpaper, September 30th , 2017. Darker floors, lighter walls. This combination positions the tone of the brick fireplace between the dark wood floors and the soft beige walls, folding the brick into the scheme beautifully. The medium red‐brown tones of the brick are repeated in the wood furniture, leather chair and red throw pillows.
Roderika Amalie Dining Room Wallpaper, September 30th , 2017. Same chairs, different colors. Take a basic set of matching wooden chairs and put your own stamp on them by painting each one a different hue. The trick here is to choose colors that have the same value (lightness or darkness), like all pastels, all midtones or all bright.
Tiberia Arianna Dining Room Wallpaper, September 30th , 2017. Turquoise and green hues provide continuity between the dining room and the parlor. They also continue into the kitchen. Note the small branch side table in the living room, which plays off the whimsical forest look in the dining room.
Roderika Amalie Living Room Wallpaper, September 30th , 2017. Low profile. The position and shape of this great fireplace call for shelving that enhances its sleek design. The low‐set shelves echo the rectangular fireplace and provide a platform on which to display stylish pieces.
Yulia Yevgeniya Dining Room Wallpaper, September 30th , 2017. Tile mosaic and hammered pendant light. Craft a worldly look with a mosaic of mismatched tiles like the Cuban tile shown here, printed cushions and a hammered silver or copper pendant light. Benches are extra cozy, but a tiled accent wall alone could add oomph to any breakfast nook.
Yulia Yevgeniya Living Room Wallpaper, September 30th , 2017. Oversize art. If you have a large expanse of brick to cover – a fireplace that reaches all the way to a high ceiling, for instance – artwork is a great way to break it up. As long as your brick is not a really bright red, most artwork should work with it. If you are unsure, try bringing a clear photograph of your fireplace with you when you're looking for art, and check if you can bring the piece home on a trial basis before committing to buy it.
Calandra Fotini Dining Room Wallpaper, September 30th , 2017. Swing‐arm sconce. A swing‐arm sconce designed to extend over the table (like the one shown here) is an unexpected alternative to the traditional chandelier, and can work even for renters if you choose a plug‐in version. Because the bulb is exposed, you'll need to use a lower‐watt filament bulb to create that lovely soft glow. But because one low‐watt bulb is not enough to light a room on its own, it is necessary to supplement with additional lighting – try a second sconce, or a pair of lamps atop a credenza.
Calandra Fotini Kitchen Wallpaper, September 30th , 2017. Red as a color gets plenty of bad rap when it comes to home decorating because it can seem far too overpowering when used excessively. But a red island coupled with a neutral backdrop can make a big visual impact in both contemporary and traditional kitchens alike. Red combines well with black in modern kitchens while a red island at the heart of a Mediterranean kitchen can instantly bring brightness to an otherwise mellow and inviting space. Make sure though that you pick a matte shade of red to ensure your red island is not ungainly and out of place.
Tiberia Arianna Living Room Wallpaper, September 30th , 2017. Enough's enough. Take care not to plan for more shelves than you need. Asian‐style homes tend to display only the most thoughtfully selected items, so simple modern shelves that frame this fireplace top and bottom suit the space perfectly. Consider downlights as a way to give those display items pride of place.
Darcey Muirgel Dining Room Wallpaper, September 30th , 2017. Cool and clean. This spectacular dining banquette is sited in the middle of a living space in a renovated 1960s apartment in Melbourne. It was decorated by interior design company Mr. Mitchell within a stand‐alone, all‐white cube. This "allowed us to introduce the macramé screen, which is a fun reference to the retro era of the apartment", says Mr. Mitchell director Andrew Mitchell.
